This car is not electric-powered VW Beetle that was made official by the VW factory, but this car is assembled two British brothers Sam and Olly namely Young.
The reason they make these electric cars also tend to be simple, namely to prove that the car could be friendly to the environment but also run fast.
The car, named the Black Current is built from the VW Beetle made in 1965. Although the age of this car is not young anymore, this car proved to have a power like a young child.
The electrified beetles are able take over a quarter mile track in less than ten seconds and reaches 0-100 km per hour acceleration in just 1.6 seconds. The times are incredible for old electric-powered cars.
In addition, the car that broke the record when it participated in the category of Zero Emissions in the arena dragrace Alternative Energy Racing Santa Pod Raceway in Northamptonshire , England also scored speed of 214 km per hour.
"You can not imagine how fast it is. From zero to 100 km per hour in 1.6 seconds is quite difficult to explain. It is really amazing," said Olly who designed this car as reported by the Daily Mail, Wednesday (8 / 6 / 2011).
"We started making this car with no engine. We are making improvements from year to year, until we got to where we are now. The secret is the time, effort, trial and error and lots of research," adds Olly.
"We will try and continue to make the car an even lighter and more powerful to make it faster. The only thing that we feel is pride and joy of course! It was so amazing when everything works as it should after months of work," he said.
The car itself has a cardiac of 60 fruit 12-volt battery commonly used by motorcycle but in the future. Two brothers want to try the battery pack of lithium batteries gel because they believe it will be able to make their cars go faster.
After this record-breaking both Sam and Olly have ambitions to challenge the dragsters overseas especially those still using gasoline engines to prove that electricity can also be run as tight as they are.
