The news first appeared on the Nikkei site and reported by Reuters on Friday (03/06/2011). Mazda will halt U.S. production in 2013. In return Mazda planning to export the cars they produce in Japan and Mexico for marketed in the U.S. ..
These actions are taken by Mazda since Mazda's production capacity in the U.S. is still small. This year Mazda only made 45,000 cars in the U.S. , or only half of its production capacity. This occurred after the financial crisis hit the U.S. for some time ago which made the number of car sales there fell. So in fact it’s reasonable when Mazda chose to stop production in the U.S.
Mazda's official site was immediately reacted with this report and denied it. Mazda says that information about the cessation of production are not derived from the Mazda official. Mazda added that Mazda and Ford together studying the possibility of a joint venture project.
"We do not have anything to announce at this time. We will not comment on this speculation," Mazda said in a statement.
