Battery charging system with no wired or wireless, can also without plugs or stekker for electric and hybrid cars, now more interested by the world's carmakers. Previously, Toyota has been proclaimed collaboration with WiTricity (U.S.) to develop wireless charging system, and now Volvo in collaboration with the Belgian company.
Charging the battery without the cord is considered to be more comfortable and enjoyable because car owners do not need to bother to roll the cable after finished filling or pull the cable when it will plug into the socket. The latest version - is actually still in the development stage - from this method is the car that will be filled must be parked on top of charging plate hidden under the floor or road surface.
"The primary target should please owners of electric cars" explains Johan Konnberg, project manager of the Special Vehicles Division, Volvo Car Corporation. In this project Volvo is using his own C30 electric series that had to be changed at the power filling system.
The wireless electric charging Volvo developed - in collaboration with Belgium 's Flanders Drive - is the induction system. With this system, the source of electrical energy transferred from the charger to the car without cables. In this way also there is a change or modification in charging system located at the car.
How it Works
Inductive charging, the charger plate is planted in the ground, for example beneath the surface of the road, home or in the garage. Plate filler consists from the coils that generate magnetic fields when energized by electrical current.
When the car was parked in it, the energy from the the plate was transferred to the car without physical contact to coil "puller" induction in the car. Power was transferred in the form of alternating current (AC). Then on the car, an electric current is converted into direct current (DC) through a converter to charge the battery. Especially in Volvo C30 Electric, battery capacity reach 24 kWh, it takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes for full charge.
Volvo will also send 250 an electric car to their selected customers in Europe in the second half of this year. This is a move to accelerate the public in Europe and around the world to use an electric car.
