Imagine if you lose sight for about two years. A sense of depression that appears will make you increasingly feel worse right?

In Dublin, a man from Ireland who has been blind for two years could finally see again the beauty of this world with implantable tooth in his eye. McNichol became blind because of an accident. He was hit by an explosion in a hot liquid aluminum recycling past November 2005. How the hardest part of a human body can be transplanted into the soft part of the human body, can even restore the vision of this man?

"I think I am going blind in the rest of my life," said the artificial cornea transplant patient’s Bob McNichol (57), a resident of County Mayo, Ireland, as reported by AFP on Thursday (02/28/2008).

Earlier, doctors who deal with McNichol, had give up to restore the eyes of McNichol who was already blind. Then McNichol heard about a new method of Keratoprosthesis surgery, conducted by Christopher Liu of the Sussex Eye Hospital, Brighton, England. This method is called Osteo-Odonto-Keratoprosthesis (OOKP).

Technique was first pioneered in the 1960s in Italy is trying to create an artificial cornea from the patient's teeth and bones. Hard to imagine how this Keratoprosthesis surgery technically done. Feels get a second chance for his father, encouraged his son, Robert (23) to donate his teeth to do the new methods of Keratoprosthesis surgery on his father.

The first part of the Keratoprosthesis surgery at McNichol take 10 hours, and for the second Keratoprosthesis surgery spent over 5 hours. "Now I have a 65% chance to be able to see normally again. Now I can see and watch TV. I have been out from the darkness," he said happily.

The progress of Keratoprosthesis surgery new method is very incredible. what have been able to do by Dr. Christopher Liu is a very big contributions to medical science and humanity.
