To enliven the Android market which is currently in top position as the operating system most widely used, Motorola has again release a new product which uses Google's platform. Following Backflip and Charm, this time Motorola offers its new product called "Defy", an Android-based phone eclair, which was reported to have tough performance.

Motorola often release new products with unique design. Just look at the unique design from Backflip or hood-like screen cover on a 3G Lucky. But uniqueness of Motorola are not too visible at a glance Defy which same like many other touch screen smartphone.

Motorola claims that this phone is an anti-dust, anti-water and scratch resistant. And although not displayed in the design, at least Defy toughness represented by choice of material. Defy using rubber-coated plastic in the back and the gorilla glass that meets the front sector.

All around there are 7 bolts which exposed directly, a typical outdoor mobile phone. And there are also rubber cover that protects access to a 3.5mm audio jack and micro USB which functions to connect the data cable and charger.

Power button is placed on the top and right beside the phone volume control. This seems to ease the user. While four capacitive buttons assist the display on the front. Capacitive buttons which is available from left to right are buttons to menu, home, back and search.

Display & Menu

Defy using capacitive touch screen TFT LCD 3.7 inch width, a screen size that fit perfectly, not too big but enough to support the Android operating system performance. Defy's touch screen also works very well during in the grip. The response was quite quick and convenient, to move between menus. To appearance the menu is equally slick because of WVGA resolution of 480 x 854 pixels.

Defy has seven panels homescreen that has many useful shortcuts and widgets. There are also 3 virtual buttons on the bottom of the screen when users are on the homescreen, each one to get to the call functions, the main menu and contacts.

Not only in facing extreme conditions, Defy also can be counted on to surf the internet. Besides dual-band HSDPA connectivity it supports, it is also because of support the browser with many features that are owned Defy. Motorola Defy's browser has a multi-windows browsing, allowing users to open multiple addresses within same site. To access this feature simply press the menu button and select new window to open a new window, or windows to switch to other windows that are running.

Although still based on Android eclair, Motorola-Defy browser already supports flash player by default without the need to install the flash player through the Android Market.

Besides using service path, Motorola-Defy users can be also use the wifi path when in the areas covered by the hotspot. Defy have a DLNA where users can play a variety of media (images, audio and video) on a computer, which is in the same WLAN network are connected to the Defy.
